Vikings undefeated at Fraser Invite


The Marysville Vikings volleyball team remained on a tear Saturday at the Fraser Invitational.

The Vikings defeated five Class A schools to finish 5-0 on the day. In pool play, they defeated Utica Ford 25-13, 25-20, L’Anse Creuse 25-12, 25-20 and Fraser 25-6, 25-10.

They beat Chippewa Valley 25-11, 25-22 in the semifinals and Macomb Dakota 25-23, 25-23 in the finals.

“We played such an impressive volleyball team in the finals,” Marysville coach Ryan Welser said. “It was the best defense we have played all year.”

Payton Husson had 17 kills in the finals with a .565 attack percentage. The Vikings (26-2-2) have now won four tournament titles this season.

Bay City Invite

The Marine City Cardinal Mooney volleyball team won a pair of games at Bay City.

The Cardinals defeated Gaylord 25-10, 25-7 and 25-20 and beat Bay City All Saints 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20.

Anna Vorderbrueggen had 29 service points, 10 blocks, eight kills and seven aces for Mooney. Calista Chaltron had 35 kills, Lilly Wolf had 26 service points, 10 aces and 12 kills and Abbey Guilliat added 21 service points and 35 service receptions for Mooney (11-4).
