1. Panas (0-1, preseason ranking: 1): The Panthers’ loss in their only match of the season featured nine junior-varsity call-ups while several players served team-enforced one-match suspensions, so the record is misleading. Make no mistake about it: Panas is still very much the team to beat.

2. Hen Hud (1-0, preseason ranking: 2): Sweeping Yorktown in your season-opener is one heck of a way to make a statement out of the gate.

3. Scarsdale (2-0, preseason ranking: 4): As expected, senior hitters Tatiana Tiangco and Kristine Fink are dominating on the offensive end for the Class AA favorites.

4. Yorktown (1-1, preseason ranking: 5): I was moving Yorktown up regardless of how it did against the Sailors; the only question was, how high would it land?

5. John Jay (2-0, preseason ranking: 3): The Indians beat two top-10 teams (Pelham, Ardsley), but the “demotion” is more about evaluating other teams’ talent.

6. Harrison (2-0, preseason ranking: 6): The Huskies opened the season with back-to-back sweeps.

7. Haldane (3-0, preseason ranking: N/R): Winning the Minisink tournament was reason enough to promote the Blue Devils, but they’ve earned their spot with regular-season wins against John Jay-East Fishkill and Ossining.

8. Pelham (2-1, preseason ranking: 7): The Pelicans have some kinks to work out, but it still took John Jay to five games in their season-opener.

9. Ardsley (1-1, preseason ranking: 8): The Panthers’ loss came against John Jay, but they forced extended play in two of the three games they lost, 27-25, 25-13, 21-25, 26-24.

10. Clarkstown North (2-0, preseason ranking: 8): To be honest, I can’t really figure out the Rams just yet. There have been times when they look exceptional, and times when they look disorganized. The talent is most definitely there though.

Class AA: 1. Scarsdale, 2. Clarkstown North, 3. John Jay-East Fishkill (3-1), 4. Clarkstown South (0-2), 5. Fox Lane (3-1)

Class A: 1. Panas, 2. Yorktown, 3. John Jay, 4. Harrison, 5. Ursuline (2-1)

Class B: 1. Hen Hud, 2. Pelham, 3. Ardsley, 4. Westlake (1-2), 5. Nyack (2-0)

Class C: 1. Pawling (1-1), 2. Valhalla (4-0), 3. Dobbs Ferry (2-1), 4. Irvington (1-2), 5. Rye Neck (2-3)

Class D: 1. Haldane, 2. Keio (2-0), 3. Tuckahoe (1-2), 4. Hamilton (2-2), 5. Solomon Schechter (0-2)
