The Raiders are very excited, but not making much of it.
The Red Hook High School volleyball team remained undefeated, sweeping visiting Marlboro 25-19, 25-11, 27-25 on Thursday.
India Mehta helped propel the Raiders with five digs, six aces and a kill. Teammate Lizzy Westermeyer had six assists, three kills, four digs and two aces.
“I thought they played well,” Red Hook coach Jessica Murray said of her team. “India really picked it up in the back row, as a setter hitting the ball.”
Julia Rusk paced the Iron Dukes with 17 digs and an ace. Amber Mianti had four kills, one block and three digs.
“The third game was tough,” Murray said. “Marlboro was starting to hit and get the ball where we weren’t, but we pulled through. Their libero did a great job in the back, picked up most of their hits. It came down to a net game.”
The win was the Raiders’ eighth straight win, and at 8-0, they are excited. Still, they aren’t making a big deal about their record.
“We haven’t really stopped to look at it yet,” Murray added. “Every game is something new, but we have to take each game as it comes.”
Red Hook can stretch its win streak to nine on Monday when it visits John A. Coleman Catholic at 5:45 p.m.
Marlboro hosts Spackenkill at 5:45 p.m. Monday.
