Kirsten Zier had 14 kills, 15 digs and five blocks for the John Jay High School volleyball team Friday, which beat visiting Fox Lane, 3-2, in five sets.
Fellow Patriot Sam Fitzgerald added nine kills, 15 digs and three blocks. Ruth Martin finished with 17 assists and nine digs.
“Playing without two starters and our best kid — Kirsten went down with an injury early in the deciding set — but we pulled it out,” Patriots coach Maria Mahoney said. “They were very proud of themselves, it was a tremendous team effort.”
John Jay (1-1) visits Monroe-Woodbury on Tuesday.
Spackenkill 3, Saugerties 0 — Nini Sher had 11 kills and four aces, while Amaya Anderson had three kills and two aces, as the Spartans improved to 2-0 on the road late Thursday.
Spackenkill will host Franklin D. Roosevelt on Tuesday.
Pine Plains 3, Poughkeepsie 0 — Alyssa Boyles had four aces and five assists to lead Pine Plains in a 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 win late Thursday.
Audrey Hollick added four aces and two kills, Ashley Starzyk had four kills and four blocks, and Michaella Lamont had three aces, three kills and two digs for the Bombers (2-1).
Poughkeepsie’s Genise Wilson had a kill, two assists and a block, Winasia Graham had a two digs, a kill and an assist, Kayla West had three aces, three assists and two blocks, and Brianna Palmer had two kills and two blocks.
New Paltz 3, Marlboro 2 — Kelly Brinkman had 15 kills, four aces and seven digs, Karly Giancola had 13 digs, five aces and eight kills, as the Huguenots beat the Iron Dukes on the road late Thursday.
Shoshana Smith added seven digs, four aces and three kills.
Marlboro was paced by Ashley Votta’s 14 kills, one block, five digs, two aces and one assist. Taylor Felicello had 26 assists, nine kills, three assists and two aces. Amber Mianti made nine kills and two blocks, and had one dig and one assist.
