We’re in the thick of the Michigan high school boys basketball season, which seems like a good time for you to vote on the best boys basketball program in the state.
USA Today High School Sports is conducting a nationwide vote for the best, but it starts at the state level this week, which brings us to these five candidates in the state: Birmingham Detroit Country Day, Lansing Sexton, Kalamazoo Central, Detroit Pershing and Saginaw.
Being the best “includes more than on-court success,” USA Today High School Sports says, “factoring in fan support, facilities, traditions, coaching and player development.”
This round of voting, featuring 255 top programs, ends Jan. 20. The winners then enter the regional voting, which goes from Jan. 21-29, then the national vote goes from Jan. 30-Feb. 9.
The winning school of the vote earns a $1,000 award for its athletic department and a banner. Second place earns $500 and a banner and third place earns $250 and a banner. All 10 finalist schools earn at least a banner.
