LONG BEACH, Calif. — Derrick Jones, who’s bound for UNLV, has become an attraction during tournament and events because of his high-flying dunks.
He didn’t disappoint Saturday at the BallIsLife.com All-American game, taking home another dunk contest title.
The odds-on favorite, Jones — from Archbishop Carroll in Philadelphia — scored a perfect 100 points on his first two dunks.
Louisville signee Donovan Mitchell (Brewster Academy in New Hampshire), who won the dunk contest at the Kentucky Derby Festival Night of Future Stars, finished with a 96 in the round-robin opening to advance to the final against Jones.
Despite a great showing from Mitchell, Jones took the crown after he jumped over UConn signee Jalen Adams, took the ball out of his hands, put it between his legs and threw down a vicious one-handed flush.
Other participants in the contest were Malik Beasley (St. Francis; Atlanta), Adams (Brewster Academy), Rex Pfleuger (Mater Dei; Santa Ana, Calif.).
