By

Westminster Christian Academy ended a five-game losing streak on Tuesday as the Crusaders defeated host Loreauville 7-1 in a District 5-2A contest.

The Crusaders launched the victory in the fifth inning, with five runs that enabled them to take a 6-1 lead.

Then in the seventh, WCA (6-12) scored the game’s final run.

Senior Crusaders’ pitcher Richard Hebert pitched five and two-thirds innings, striking out 11 and allowing one hit.

Hebert walked seven, but those bases on balls were spaced throughout his 119 pitches.

Junior WCA pitcher Charlie Kovac finished the game. Kovac struck out two batters in the sixth inning after Hebert departed from the game.

In the seventh Kovac didn’t allow a run and WCA ended the game with an infield double play.

The Crusaders faced Loreauville pitcher Malik Washington, who threw five innings and 98 pitches.

Westminster tied the game at one in the second after Kovac belted a one-out double and then came home on a Ken Jones single.

In the fifth the Crusaders broke open the game with their five runs.

WCA’s Jonah Manuel bunted and reached first base when the Tigers misplayed the ball and made an error. The key hit came afterward when Manuel scored on a Nick Babineaux double.

The Crusaders continued their scoring after they loaded the bases and Kovac hit a two-RBI single.

Westminster continues its district schedule Thursday when the Crusaders host Loreauville on Thursday.
