WEDDINGTON, N.C. — Weddington made a statement this week, handing rival Cuthbertson their fourth straight loss, 27-17.

The Warriors got the game started quickly on offense, racing out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter. Cuthbertson quarterback Austin Kendall started to find his groove late in the first half, throwing a touchdown and leading his team down for a 28-yard field goal to make it 14-10 at the break.

In the second half, Weddington’s special teams took advantage of good field position on a botched Cuthbertson punt, with Khalil Springs recovering the ball in the endzone for the score, giving Weddington a 21-10 lead.

Weddington will host Sun Valley next week in conference play. Cuthbertson will take on Anson County in a game that may be considered a must-win for the Cavaliers’ playoff hopes.
