SOUTH OLDHAM (7-1) AT NORTH BULLITT (8-1)
Battle for first place in Class 5-A, District Three
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
* South Oldham has won seven straight since falling 32-20 at Anderson County in its season opener. The Dragons knocked off Bullitt Central 43-13 last week as senior running back Starr Thompson scored three touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving). South Oldham’s defense is allowing just 10.3 points per game. Senior linebacker David Hayden, primarily a punter last season, has a team-high 43 tackles (24 solo).
* North Bullitt enters with a five-game winning streak and is enjoying a stellar turnaround under first-year coach Adam Billings, who inherited a program that finished 1-10 last year. The Eagles beat Bullitt East 21-15 last week to secure the Bullitt Cup county title. Junior quarterback Andrew Brown completed 11 of 18 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 88 yards and a score on six carries.
Quotable: “My credibility is down a little because I told everybody before the season how we’d be a subpar team,” South Oldham coach Jamie Reed said. “The guys showed me and the coaching staff they didn’t want to be subpar this season. I pinch myself every day when I get up.”
The pick: South Oldham 35-21.
