Week 3 preview | Lafayette at Trinity

It’s the Week 3 Kentucky HS football preview with The C-J’s Jason Frakes and Chris White looking at this week’s monster games in Louisville area high school football.

Shamrocks won last meeting 65-0 in 2008

* Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

* Lafayette rolled to a 53-13 victory over Mercer County last week as junior quarterback Walker Wood completed 19 of 31 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Wood is among several high-level recruits for Lafayette, joining senior offensive lineman Landon Young (University of Kentucky commit), senior safety Mason Alstatt (Wofford commit) and junior offensive lineman Jedrick Wills (five-star rating from Rivals.com).

* Trinity is 2-0 for the first time since 2012 after its 31-13 victory at Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy last week. Senior Jailen Reed (21 carries, 135 yards, one touchdown) and junior Jovan Smith (11 carries, 77 yards, two touchdowns) both had big games on the ground. Trinity is ranked No. 23 in the nation by USA Today and No. 25 by NationalHSFootball.com

* Quotable: “The thing I like about our offense right now is that it’s sort of an amoeba,” Trinity coach Bob Beatty said. “Whatever a particular game presents, we seem to be taking advantage of that and playing smart offensive football.”

* The pick: Trinity 42-14.
