It’s hard to believe the season is almost halfway done. That still leaves plenty of room for standout performances, though. Here’s a look at some great games from Friday with this week’s edition of the American Family Insurance ALL-USA South Dakota Players of the Week:
Aberdeen Central’s Layne Tieszen caught 10 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns in the Golden Eagles’ 36-25 loss to Yankton. Tieszen scored on receptions of 38, 70, 23 and 60 yards.
Grant Johnson scored six touchdowns – five on the ground and one through the air – to pace Alcester-Hudson in the Cubs’ 56-22 defeat of Parker. Johnson had 17 carries for 182 yards.
Brookings’ Gerald Maxwell had 23 carries for 225 yards and two touchdowns as the Bobcats edged Lincoln 28-22. For Lincoln, Lee Ransom finished with seven catches for 203 yards and three touchdowns.
Lyman’s Korder Cropsey rushed for 203 yards and five touchdowns on 20 carries in Friday’s 52-7 win over Rapid City Christian. Cropsey also scored on a 43-yard reception.
Sioux Falls Christian’s Keegan Van Egdom rushed 25 times for 198 yards and two touchdowns as the Chargers upended Sioux Valley 30-7.
Grant Rice turned in big plays on both sides of the ball for Gayville-Volin in a 30-0 win over Andes Central/Dakota Christian. Rice threw a TD pass and ran for another, while turning in 15 tackles and an interception on defense.
Brevin Kaiser surpassed 300 total yards again with 243 yards through the air (on 15 of 33 passing) and 83 on the ground in Pierre’s 37-12 win over Huron. Kaiser finished with one passing touchdown and two rushing scores.
Landon Bruinsma threw for 114 yards and three touchdowns (on just 4 of 6 passing) and added a 99-yard touchdown run as Corsia-Stickney shut out Avon 52-0. Eli Van Roekel added six carries for 102 yards and a score to go with three catches for 111 yards. Each reception went for a touchdown. Clayton Menning had seven carries for 150 yards and a score.
McCook Central/Montrose’s Jerry Kappenman rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in the Fighting Cougars’ shutout win over Flandreau.
Reed Harter rushed for 189 yards and three scores on 11 carries as Colome upended Burke/South Central 44-8.
Madison’s Mitch Hansen powered the top-ranked Bulldogs past Lennox with 198 yards and four scores on 10 of 20 passing, while Brodie Frederiksen ran 23 times for 107 yards. For Lennox, John Oldenkamp rushed for 121 yards.
Gregory’s Jayd VanDerWerff had 19 carries for 148 yards and added a 35-yard touchdown reception as the Gorillas defeated Miller 20-12.
Washington’s Chayden Fitzsimmons had 32 carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns as the Warriors defeated O’Gorman 39-23. Quarterback Jack Schelhaas added 84 yards rushing and two scores, while going 12 of 16 passing for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Jerad Nielsen rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns in Canistota’s 48-0 win over Elkton-Lake Benton.
Chamberlain’s Parker Evans rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns and added 105 receiving yards in the Cubs’ 26-0 win over Red Cloud.
West Central’s Jonah Rechtenbaugh rushed 19 times for 124 yards and a score against Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan. Rechtenbaugh opened the game with a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Riston Wolf paced Oldham-Ramona/Rutland with 23 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-30 win over Menno/Marion.
Beresford’s Kris Kropuenske had 15 carries for 145 yards in a win over Elk Point-Jefferson.
Chester Area’s Jesse Kreutzfeldt rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries as the Flyers defeated Howard 48-8.
Shay Gibson was 7-for-13 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Blue Dragons of Garretson past Viborg-Hurley. Gibson also had a 1-yard touchdown run.
Adam Heien hauled in seven catches for 144 yards as Tea Area edged Dell Rapids 14-6.
Dell Rapid St. Mary’s Josh Brown ran 20 times for 138 yards and three scores in the Cardinals’ 24-0 win over Estelline.
Cameron Kuil rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries as the Warriors routed Valentine (Neb.) 51-0.
Parkston’s Blake Bietz had 20 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns and added 12 tackles to lead the Trojans past Redfield/Doland 47-14.
Tyson Jahn led the Rough Riders with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and added a third score on a screen pass in Roosevelt’s 41-8 road win over Harrisburg.
