West Holmes has lost five in a row, but four of those teams are .500 or better … Don’t look for the Knights to throw it a lot as last week at home against Orrville they threw for just eight yards … West Holmes ran for 328 yards on the Red Riders, but were hurt by five turnovers on a soggy night.
The second-half of Mansfield Senior’s schedule toughens up as they saw last week in a tough loss at 5-1 Ashland … After Friday’s game against last-place West Holmes, the Tygers finish out with Wooster, Lex and Madison, and those teams are a collective 13-5 to date … The Wooster and Lex games will be on the road.
Madison at Clear Fork
Madison 3-3, 2-1 OCC; Clear Fork 2-4, 0-3 OCC
Wooster over Clear Fork 42-7; Madison over Lexington 59-10.
Madison has not won or lost consecutive games this season … Madison’s improved passing game sees Tresten Vail completing 52 of 89 passes for 822 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions … His best target of late has been Billy Buckley who has 16 catches for 321 yards and four touchdowns.
Clear Fork is riding a three-game losing streak, but three of their final four games will be played in the Colt Corral … The final two games on the schedule will be against Orrville and West Holmes, both of which are in the bottom half of the Ohio Cardinal Conference standings … After scoring 79 points in its first three games, Clear Fork has scored just 14 points in the last three.
Wooster at Lexington
Wooster 5-1, 3-0 OCC; Lexington 5-1, 2-1 OCC
Wooster over Clear Fork 42-7; Madison over Lexington 59-10
Wooster has allowed just one touchdown a game in Ohio Cardinal Conference play … The Generals are averaging 25.2 points per game … Ashland, Mansfield Senior and Madison fans will be hoping Lexington can knock off the lone 3-0 team in the league … Wooster finishes out the season with games against the Tygers, West Holmes and Orrville.
Lexington is in the midst of its demanding second-half of the season … After hosting the league leaders, the final three games for the Minutemen are at West Holmes and home against Mansfield Senior and Ashland … Lexington hadn’t given up 59 combined points in its last four games before Madison dropped 59 on it last week.
Shelby at Tiffin Columbian
Shelby 3-3, 2-1 NOL; Tiffin Columbian 3-3, 2-1 NOL.
Shelby over Willard 46-7; Tiffin Columbian over Norwalk 27-12.
Brennan Armstrong leads the Northern Ohio League in passing at 54 of 115 for 1,000 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions … He is second in the league in rushing with 644 yards on 102 carries and 13 more touchdowns … The Whippets have struggled after halftime, scoring just six points in three NOL games in the third quarter, while giving up 33.
Tiffin Columbian quarterback Todd Simonds is 74 of 134 for 867 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions … Ross Pauly leads the Tornadoes in rushing with 454 yards on 73 carries … Clay Dryfuse has three sacks and Aaron Sostaric has 54 tackles … Ro Durham and Cody Kimmet have combined for 50 receptions for 663 yards.
River Valley at Galion
River Valley 5-1, 3-0 in MOAC Red; Galion 4-2, 1-2 in MOAC Red.
River Valley over Fairbanks 46-8; Galion over Marion Harding 24-21.
River Valley beat Galion 21-17 last year … Devin Hessler and David Blanton have six interceptions between them this season … Bailey Cole is a big-play receiver with 26 catches and five touchdowns, including TD receptions of 26 and 52 yards from QB Jax Harville last week … Ethan Leibengood scored on a 70-yard run against Fairbanks.
Drake Barnett leads the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference in rushing with 1.032 yards on 113 carries, while Jacob Fryer is next with 291 yards rushing on 34 tries … Harrison Ivy is the top receiver with 11 catches for 101 yards … Connor Moreton is a threat at kicker with four field goals on six attempts with a long of 36 yards.
