Week 9 preview/pick | Bullitt East at North Bullitt

It’s the Week 9 Kentucky HS football preview with The C-J’s Jason Frakes and Chris White looking at this week’s monster games in Louisville area high school football.

Winner takes home Bullitt Cup as county champ

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

* Bullitt East had won two in a row but was blasted at South Oldham 41-0 last week. The Chargers managed just 123 rushing yards on 45 attempts (2.7 yards per carry) and were led by senior Cameron Dossey (19 carries, 65 yards). The Chargers used their fourth quarterback of the season, freshman D.J. Chappell, in the loss as junior starter Zak Kessler remained out with a shoulder injury.

* North Bullitt ran its winning streak to four with a 48-25 victory at Nelson County last week as Logan James rushed for 275 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries. The senior needs 34 more rushing yards to reach 1,000 for the season and has scored 15 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Andrew Brown has passed for 1,251 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Quotable: “Our No. 1 goal was to get a home playoff game, and one of our lesser-tier goals was to win the Bullitt Cup,” North Bullitt coach Adam Billings said. “That’s all on the line right here together in one game. … We’ve been working hard all year, and the kids understand they’re in a pretty good position. They’ve earned it.”

The pick: North Bullitt 31-21.
