Florida high school cancels remainder of girls basketball season because of 'internal issues'

The remainder of the girls basketball season at West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.) has been canceled because of what the athletic director termed “internal issues.”

The Orlando Sentinel reports that AD Adam Miller pulled the plug following an incident last Thursday in a 37-31 loss to Olympia (Orlando).

“It wasn’t a fight or anything,” he said. “It was merely lack of dedication  to our program, school and alumni. [Canceling the season was] something that had to be done. …

“We preach education, pride, respect and honor at West Orange High School. It’s unfortunate, but our girls varsity basketball team never bought into it.”

West Orange was expected to be a potential contender in the postseason. There were four regular-season games remaining when the season was canceled.
