The Westside Lady Seminoles track team has its sights on some hardware this postseason.
All-American sprinter, Tamdra Lawrence, might just be paving the way.Lawrence recently signed a track scholarship with Murray State. She holds the state’s top time in the 200 meters, and she’s a force in the 100 meters, at second in the region.
With the regular season winding down, Lawrence says she is ready to once again compete on the big stage.
“At first I’m nervous, but once the gun goes off I’m ready to go. I just say my little prayer and wait for the gun to go off,” Lawrence said.
“She’s looking to be the very first state champion for Westside,” track coach James Hickenbotham said. “We don’t have that for any sport at all. We have runner ups in some areas but never a state champion.”
Westside runs in the county championship on Tuesday at Thompson stadium. The region championship meet is Thursday in Lamar county.
