Baseball and softball for Buncombe County Schools is about to get a lot brighter.
BCS Assistant Superintendent Robbie Adell said Monday morning that a $800,000 project to light six fields should be complete in time for the 2016 season.
Here are the BCS facilities which are getting lights:
- North Buncombe baseball
- Roberson softball
- Erwin baseball and softball
- Enka baseball
- Reynolds softball
Three different companies bid on the lighting contract, with the low offer being $744,956 from The Lighting Company and Electrical Construction LLC out of Chesnee, S.C.. Extra costs should drive up the total expenditure to about $808,456. But by doing all six fields in time for 2016, BCS is expected to save at least $31,000 as opposed to spreading out the installations over multiple years.
There are no current plans to upgrade existing BCS baseball/softball fields which already have lights.
NCHSAA baseball and softball programs can hold their first practice on Feb. 15, 2016 and play their first game on Feb. 29.
