HOUSTON – One of the best basketball players in Wilsonville High School history has been named second-team all-Conference USA. Seth Gearhart led the Rice Unversity Owls men’s team this season averaging 15.4 points per game and 5.3 rebounds.

The 6-7 senior forward was the only Rice player to be named to any of the all-conference men’s basketball teams. He is the first Rice player to make an all-conference squad in three years.

The Rice Owls (12-20) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament before losing 70-74 to Louisiana Tech. Gearhart was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points.

Gearhart was also named to the conference’s All-Academic Team. He is the only player in league history to record back-to-back 30-point games against conference opponents, scoring 31 in a win at Western Kentucky followed by 32 in a double-overtime win against University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Gearhart graduated from Wilsonville High School in 2011 and won a full-ride athletic scholarship to Rice where he graduates in May. Gearhart is Wilsonville’s second leading scorer all time and the leading rebounder in the school’s history. Gearhart led Wilsonville to the playoffs each of his 4-years.

Gearhart was selected 1st team all-state his senior year at Wilsonville and was also named Northwest Conference Player of the Year that year. Gearhart is currently meeting with agents and exploring a professional basketball career overseas.
