A pair of John Jay High School wrestlers earned wild-card entries to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship Meet on Wednesday.
Randy Earl (106 pounds) and Grant Frederick (145) join teammate Jay Albis (113) in the Division I branch of the tournament, which will be held Feb. 27-28 at the Times Union Center in Albany.
Earl and Frederick each placed second in the Section 1 Division I tournament on Sunday, with Earl getting pinned by North Rockland’s Anthony Sulla, and Frederick losing an 8-2 decision to Roy C. Ketcham’s Danny Murphy.
Murphy and Arlington’s Brady Robin (138) were also automatic qualifiers for the state meet as sectional champions.
Ten area wrestlers qualified for the Division II state tournament, including Pawling’s 145-pounder Chris Santana from Section 1.
Section 9 qualifiers included Highland’s Andrew Suleiman (132), Mike Feliciano (113), Teddy Mapes (170) and John Beal (285); Red Hook’s Wade Harris (99), Taylor Benson (220) and Stefan Chichkov (220); Marlboro’s Isaac Mathews (138); and New Paltz’s Ben Cuppett (152).
