WEST LAFAYETTE — The Blue Devils entered the second round of the East Central Ohio League tournament on Wednesday 14 strokes behind first-place Marietta.

Supported by a good day from Nolan Kimberly (77), Jared Ball (75) and JJ Burns (80) they closed the gap, but not by enough to take home the Scarlet Division.

They finished with day with a score of 315 and the tournament with a score of 663, which was 10 shots behind Marietta (653).

“For us we shot about as well as we could, in fact, it was our season-low score. Up at Oak Shadows, we kind of put ourselves behind the eight ball. We put ourselves to far behind to catch them,” coach Jim Rudloff said. “They are a very good club, and we are a good club, but we are about even with them.”

Zanesville had three golfers earn All-ECOL honors. JJ Burns and Jared Ball earned honorable mention, while sophomore Nolan Kimberly earned first-team All-ECOL honors.

The All-ECOL honors were determined combining the golfers’ first round and second round scores.

“I’m really happy for Nolan and my two seniors getting honorable mention,” Rudloff said. “It’s a tough field up here and a tough course.”

Sectionals for the Blue Devils won’t be until Oct. 8.

“If we put up a score like this on that day I will be really happy because we will be going to districts,” Rudloff said.
