COACH OF THE YEAR
Ken Novak Jr., Hopkins (Minnetonka)
Novak guided the Royals to a 31-1 record and the Class 4A state championship, his seventh title at Hopkins, the most for any head coach at one school in Minnesota. Novak has presided over 25 consecutive 20-win seasons and sits just five wins shy of 800 for his career.
Player of the Year
Amir Coffey, G, Hopkins (Minnetonka), 6-7/195, Sr.
Coffey returned with a vengeance from a knee injury that cost him most of his junior season, averaging 18.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, leading the Royals to the Class 4A state title. The AP Minnesota Player of the Year and the state’s Mr. Basketball winner, Coffey has committed to play for the University of Minnesota.
Tre Jones, G, Apple Valley, 6-2/160, So.
Tyus Jones’ younger brother has become a star in his own right, averaging 16.2 points, 6.8 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Gary Trent Jr., G, Apple Valley, 6-6/202, Jr.
The state’s Gatorade Player of the Year averaged 26.6 points and six rebounds per game for the 29-2 Eagles.
Steffon Mitchell, F/G Shakopee, 6-7/205, Sr.
Mitchell overcame double-teams to average 25.3 points per game, while also hauling in 9.7 rebounds.
Michael Hurt, F, John Marshall (Rochester), 6-7/185, Sr.
The future Golden Gopher capped his career by averaging 19.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 8.0 assists for the 24-5 Rockets.
