The 2016-17 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Girls Hockey Team was selected based on past performance, level of competition and strength of schedule.

Three teammates from Shattuck-St Mary’s lead the team, part of Minnesota’s 14-player contingent. Cayla Barnes from New Hampshire, last season’s ALL-USA Player of the Year, also returns and is the lone representative from the Granite State. Connecticut, Massachusetts and North Dakota also each have one honoree.

Britta Curl School: Bismarck (N.D.) Year: Junior Height: 5-8 College: Wisconsin Noteworthy: Curl led North Dakota in scoring with 45 goals and 32 assists as Bismarck finished 23-3 and won the state title. Becca Gilmore School: Noble & Greenough (Dedham, Mass.) Year: Senior Height: 5-6 College: Harvard Noteworthy: The lone returning high school player for the United States at the Under-22 Series against Canada in August, Gilmore scored 29 goals and added 10 assists last season as Nobles won the New England Prep Division I tournament title. Taylor Heise School: Red Wing (Minn.) Year: Junior Height: 5-10 College: Minnesota Noteworthy: A member of the U.S. team at the Under-18 Series against Canada in August, Heise recorded 47 goals and 37 assists a season ago for Red Wing and was named First Team All-State. Photo: Scott and Sally Roth

Natalie Heising School: Wayzata (Minn.) Year: Senior Height: 5-5 College: Penn State Noteworthy: Heising scored the game-winner and was named Player of the Game during the United States’ 4-0 win over Sweden in the semifinals of the Under-18 World Championships in January. Maureen Murphy School: Shattuck-St. Mary’s (Faribault, Minn.) Year: Senior Height: 5-4 College: Providence Noteworthy: Murphy was the second-leading goal-scorer for the United States at the Under-18 Series vs. Canada in August with two goals in three games, including what proved to be the game-winner in the team’s 5-4 win over Canada in the third game of the series. Catie Skaja School: New Prague (Minn.) Year: Junior Height: 5-6 College: Minnesota Noteworthy: A two-time member of the U.S. team at the Under-18 Series vs. Canada, Skaja poured in 40 goals and 41 assists a year ago for New Prague, leading the Trojans to a 19-10-1 season. Natalie Snodgrass School: Eastview (Apple Valley, Minn.) Year: Senior Height: 5-5 College: Connecticut Noteworthy: The 2016 Pioneer Press Player of the Year, Snodgrass tallied 37 goals and 20 assists a year ago, leading Eastview to a 20-7-4 record.
