2016 ALL-USA Hawaii Football Team

USA TODAY High School Sports is proud to announce the 2016 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Hawaii Football Team. Players were selected based on their athletic achievements from the 2016-17 season.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Rod York, Mililani

York steered Mililani (9-3) to the HHSAA Division I championship in 2016, culminating with a 31-20 victory over Iolani in the title-clincher. The win gave York and the Trojans their second state championship in three seasons.

OFFENSE

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tua Tagovailoa, Saint Louis (Honolulu)

A U.S. Army All-American and the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year, Tagovailoa passed for 2,669 yards this past season, amassing 27 touchdowns against seven interceptions. The Alabama signee also rushed for 727 yards and eight touchdowns while leading the Crusaders (10-1) to the Open Division state title.

DEFENSE

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kekaula Kaniho, Kahuku

Kaniho, author of six interceptions and five defensive touchdowns this season, was the backbone of a Kahuku defense that allowed just 9.9 points per game and produced six shutouts in 2016. He helped the Red Raiders reach the Open Division state championship game against Saint Louis.
