SCHOOL: Port Huron Northern
SEASON: Earned All-MAC White honors this season with a 42.6 nine hole average in league play, including a season-low 35 at Oakridge. Ended his league season by posting a 38 and 35 in back-to-back meets.
COACH’S COMMENT: “He ended up having some of our lowest nine hole scores of our years,” Kyle Whymer said. “He had an up and down year and started to (score lower) at the end of the year. He shot an 85 in our district and was just outside of being able to put himself in the regionals.”
SCHOOL: Marine City
SEASON: Team captain who averaged 43.6 per nine holes to win MAC Silver MVP. Won the MAC Silver Championship title with a 6-over 78 at Maple Lane, and also medaled at the Division 3 districts with a second place score of 78.
SCHOOL: St. Clair
SEASON: Finished the MAC Blue season third in points while averaging a nine hole score of 43.4. Qualified individually for the Division 2 regional tournament with an 84 – the same score he shot in the regional tournament as well.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Adam is one of the most dedicated players that I have had here at St. Clair High School,” Ken Mareski said. “He works at his game more than any other player than I have ever seen. Adam has a love for golf that is so focused, it is hard to believe that he has time for much more. With some work on his course management skills, and specific swing training, I believe that he will challenge for top honors next year.”
SEASON: Earned Blue Water Area Conference MVP honors with a nine hole average of 39.3. Ended the conference season with a team and individual win in the BWAC Championship, carding a 79 to lead the Tigers. Qualified for the Division 2 regional tournament individually with an 82 at districts before shooting a 79 at the regional tournament.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Matt has been a solid player and a team leader,” John King said. “He has the respect of everyone in the BWAC. He’s soft spoken, but a fierce competitor.”
SEASON: Had a nine hole average of 40 for the Pioneers, also ending his season with a second place finish at the BWAC Championship with an 80. Qualified individually for the Division 2 regional tournament after carding an 85 at the district tournament held at Atlas Valley Country Club.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Matthew Benson had a good year, he was second in points for the BWAC MVP,” Adam Garza said. “He is a very good situational golfer. He never puts himself in bad spots where he can’t score. He is just a great teammate to have on any team … he will have a breakout year next year.”
SEASON: Times Herald Golfer of the Year who averaged a nine hole score of 38. Finished either first or second in every BWAC Jamboree this season, including a low score of 35 and a high score of just 39 to make him First Team All-BWAC. Led Richmond to its third straight team regional berth with an 83 at the district tournament at Heather Hills.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Noah is an exceptional golfer who will definitely play at the next level,” Ken Parlardg said. “He continues to learn how to be leader on and off the course. His game continues to improve and with his passion for the sport the sky is the limit. Even though the season did not end the way he wanted, I cannot wait to see what is in store for his senior year.”
SCHOOL: Port Huron
SEASON: Had a nine hole average of 40.2 and an 18 hole average of 78.9 while earning All-MAC Blue honors. Won the Port Huron Northern Invitational with a 75 and qualified for regionals individually with a 75 at Golden Hawk. Missed the Division 1 state cut by two strokes, shooting a 79 at the regional tournament at The Orchards.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Nick had an amazing year,” Dan Perkins said. “He worked extremely hard to ensure he would be successful this year and that paid off. He was very consistent all year and led our team. He has a terrific ability to hit the golf ball and thoroughly enjoys the game. He is also a great student and a leader within the school.”
SEASON: Held a nine hole average of 44.7 throughout the season to earn him All-MAC Blue honors.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Nick really dedicated himself to improving his swing during the offseason,” Paul Moretz said. “I know he expected to score better but with any swing change there are tough times and he really worked hard throughout the season. Nick was a leader for us and always represented our team extremely well.”
SCHOOL: Marine City
SEASON: Held a nine hole average of 45.3 to earn All-MAC Silver honors. Shot an 84 at Maple Lane to help the Mariners to a MAC Silver Championship win. Helped Marine City reach the team regional tournament, also missing the state tournament cut by just one stoke with an 81 at the regional tournament.
SCHOOL: Port Huron Northern
SEASON: Earned All-MAC White honors after averaging a nine hole score of 45.8. Helped Northern to a second place finish in the MAC White conference, including a low round of 37 at Red Oaks.
COACH’S COMMENT: “He had a great year for us,” Kyle Whymer said. “He started off low in our first tournament down at Evans Gil and he continued to post rounds that we used to be competitive in the MAC White … he played well and he contributed in all of our matches.”
SEASON: Held a nine hole average of 45.1 while earning BWAC First Team honors. Qualified individually for the regional tournament by shooting a 92 in the district tournament. Led the Bulldogs as team captain as well.
COACH’S COMMENT: “He played our number one all year and finished in the top eight in the BWAC,” Steve McIntyre said. “He plays pretty steady, tee to green especially … and he’s really only golfed for two seasons. He’s the kind of kid you want your whole team made up of, and his teammates look up to him even though he’s quiet. He just wants to work on his game, and it’s infectious.”
