Top-ranked teams from four different states will take to the basketball court in the 2016 Pink and White Lady Classic.
One of the premier high school girls basketball tournaments in Missouri hosts some of the best teams from the southwest region of the state plus four out-of-area teams considered to be among the best in their respective states.
The Pink and White Lady Classic organizers altered the tournament’s format this season to better accommodate the guest teams and the local teams alike. In the past, out-of-area teams automatically received either the No. 2 seed or the No. 3 seed in their respective brackets in order to accommodate travel. This year, the guest teams are seeded No. 1 or No. 4 in the two brackets.
Action begins Tuesday, Dec. 27 on the campus of Drury University. The two-time reigning and defending Texas 4A state champion Argyle Eagles hold the No. 1 seed in the Pink Division. Class 2 state champion Strafford holds the No. 2 seed in the Pink, with Ozark nabbing the No. 3 seed and the Mercer County (Harrodsburg, Kentucky) Titans grabbing the No. 4 seed.
Both brackets play out over four days, with the Pink Division championship game at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, and the White Division championship game to follow at 2 p.m. After the first day, all winners’ bracket games take place at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
North Little Rock (North Little Rock, Arkansas) returns to the Pink and White off of winning the Arkansas 7A state championship. North Little Rock was the only team to defeat Crane, winners of four consecutive Class 2 state championships, in the 2015-2016 season.
North Little Rock beat Crane 81-52 to win the White Division in 2015. The Charging Wildcats have four players on their roster being recruited by NCAA Division I teams and hold the No. 1 seed in the White Division bracket.
Kickapoo, the 2016 Missouri Class 5 state champions with University of California-Irvine signee Jordan Sanders holds the No. 2 seed in the White Division bracket. Perennial Class 2 contender Skyline nabbed the No. 3 seed, with 6-foot-4 Duke University signee Madison Treece, and the Rock Bridge Bruins were chosen for the No. 4 seed.
