Before the season even started, Jaelen Gill was marked as a high recruiting priority for Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer. Now his future may be a little less confident following a devastating injury that has ended his junior campaign after just two games.
As first reported by the Westerville News, Gill — a 5-star running back in the class of 2018 who currently stars for Westerville South — was lost for the season when he suffered an unspecified lower body injury during the first half of his team’s 23-7 loss to Gahanna. Unidentified sources later told 247 Sports Ohio State site Bucknuts that Gill suffered an ankle injury during the contest.
While the true severity of Gill’s injury may still be held in confidence, that it has come so early will surely inspire some elite schools to reassess the aggression with which they pursue the Ohio native; according to 247 Sports, he already holds nearly 25 scholarship offers, including invitations from most of the nation’s most prominent football programs.
For now, Gill will have to watch from the sidelines, potentially for the remainder of the season, gaining additional motivation for when he can return throughout.
