It’s one thing to pitch a perfect softball game. It’s another to pitch a perfect perfect game, one in which all outs come via strikeout. That’s nearly what unfolded in South Carolina, where Cheyenne Strong struck out 14 of the 15 batters she faced in Thomas Heyward’s 17-0 rout of Hilton Head Island.
Incredibly, Strong’s lone non-strikeout out came on a foul tip into the mitt of wonderfully-named catcher Hannah Cannon. As reported by the Island Packet, there was not a single ball hit into the infield during the Heyward’s victory, which was truncated by the South Caroliuna blowout rules.
That’s an entire game without a single ball touching the infield. No wonder Heyward emerged from the game with more confidence than ever.
