Shun’Cee Thomas and Xavier Johnson never visited Ouachita Baptist University together, but the Airline teammates ended up signing with the school together on Wednesday.
They were part of a Vikings signing class that also included Tyler McAllister, who will continue his football career at Harding.
“I was excited, until I got here,” Johnson said with a smile Wednesday. “I was really, really nervous.
“But as the time went by, it was going well. I got emotional at one point, because I was going to miss all the boys I was playing with.”
Vikings head coach Bo Meeks said this class was special, especially for their leadership on and off the field.
“I love talking about these guys, because all of them are great kids,” Meeks said. “What a special day for these guys.”
Thomas and Johnson played together for three years at Airline and have the chance to continue that at Ouachita. The two also plan on being roommates in college.
Any chance they get sick of each other?
“Nah,” Johnson said with a chuckle. “(Shun’Cee)’s a funny dude. I like laughing at him.”
