Two weeks ago, Mark Hall did something no Minnesota wrestler has done — win 12 state titles.
Hall, considered the top pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation and the reigning American Family Insurance ALL-USA Wrestler of the Year, will attempt to qualify for the Olympics and then is bound for Penn State.
But before he heads to the Olympic Training Center, Hall represented Minnesota in the annual Dream Team Classic on Saturday.
Hall’s match with Alex Marinelli from Graham (St. Paris, Ohio) at 170 pounds might have been the most anticipated high school wrestling match of the year. Marinelli is ranked No. 2 in the nation.
Hall took a 2-1 lead after two periods but put on a massive flurry in the third. He had a 9-1 lead with more than a minute left. He kept going to finish strong and ended up with a 14-5 victory.
Despite Hall’s victory, Team USA beat Team Minnesota 34-18.
