MAEVE KOSCIELSKI, Cathedral
In the quarterfinals of the IHSAA state team tournament June 3, Koscielski defeated Carmel’s Lauryn Padgett 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. In the semifinals June 4, she beat Terre Haute South’s Lauren Hambrock 6-0, 6-3. In the state finals, Koscielski swept South Bend St. Joseph’s Maddie Yergler 6-0, 6-0, for the state title.
HAYLIE FOSTER, Avon
In the IHSAA semistate finals June 4, Foster went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI in Avon’s 4-0 win over Franklin Central. She was also the winning pitcher, giving up seven hits with five strikeouts.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
BRYEANA BYRDSONG, Warren Central
Byrdsong was part of the Warriors’ winning 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams at the state finals June 3. She also finished second in the 100 and third in the 200.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
D’WAYNE ESKRIDGE, Bluffton
Eskridge placed first in two separate races and second in the long jump at the state meet June 4. In the 100-meter dash he finished at 10.51 seconds; in the 200-meter dash, 21.54 seconds; and in the long jump, 23 feet, 8 inches.
EMMA CONNELL, Fishers/HSE
On June 4, the Pride defeated Cathedral 12-11 in overtime to claim the state championship. Connell played a key part, scoring the final point in regulation and sending the game into overtime. She capped off her team’s win with the final goal in overtime.
LUKE DENNEN, Cathedral
In Cathedral’s state title victory over Carmel on June 4, Dennen finished with three goals and two assists.
DRAKE PEGGS, Knightstown
In the regional games June 4, Peggs led his team to back-to-back victories and a second consecutive regional title. He went 2-for-3 in the Panther’s 3-0 win over Heritage Christian in the first game. In the regional championship game, He went 3-for-4 as Knightstown defeated Cardinal Ritter 8-4.
COLLIN PENNINGTON, Speedway
Pennington was medalist after shooting 38 in Speedway’s 165 victory over Beech Grove and Lutheran May 31.
