When Bo Pelini was the head football coach at Nebraska, his very existence spawned a tremendous fake Twitter account called @FauxPelini. While there were any number of aspects about @FauxPelini that was noteworthy, the account’s icon photo, of Pelini lovingly holding a cat while wearing a fair isle turtleneck sweater. Since Pelini was fired, later resurfacing at Youngstown State, the fascination with memes focused on his lifestyle has waned. Or, perhaps it has waned everywhere but Mount Michael Benedictine High in Omaha.
As reported by the Omaha World-Herald, the entire Mount Michael Benedictine senior class decided to take themed individual class photos, and settled on Faux Pelini-style attire … complete with one student’s cat.
Here’s how the entire idea came together, according to the man who first came up with the concept, senior Jacob Pova:
“You have to make the photo cheesy, and one night after prayer, our dean asked us if we had any ideas,” Bova said. “I said why don’t we do a Faux Pelini-type thing and use my cat. And everyone jumped on. Another kid said he had the glasses and another kid said let’s wear turtlenecks instead of button shirts.”
Yes, they used a real cat in the photos. His name is Friskey, and he belongs to Pova.
The entire “prank” was well executed from start to finish, and it left Mount Michael with a new footnote to the school’s legacy.
