On Saturday, No. 2 Ohio State hosts No. 3 Michigan in what will essentially amount to a playoff to reach the national college football semifinals. It is, without elaboration, an enormous game, as it would be even without those stakes because of the fierce rivalry between the two schools.

As much as the two programs’ success makes the 2016 edition of the Midwestern border war more exciting, it also makes life much more harrowing for at least one Ann Arbor citizen.

Antjuan Simmons is the star outside linebacker and running back for Ann Arbor’s Pioneer High School, which sits directly across from Michigan Stadium. He is also a four-star Ohio State commit, which makes him persona non-grata around town this week. Apparently realizing precisely how outnumbered he is in his own backyard, Simmons offered up the following assessment, with a lighthearted touch that included both X’ed out letter ‘M’s and both a laughing and demurred emoji.

Simmons’ Tweet immediately elicited supportive responses from Buckeye fans, some of whom shared in Simmons’ “pain” in living north of the Ohio border. Still, it’s up to the linebacker himself to get through the week while remaining loyal to his pledge and not ruining his long-term friendships around Pioneer. Good luck on that, Mr. Simmons.
