Canton 70, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 50 at Canton — Alex DeYoung picked up 11 points, eight boards and five steals to help Canton top Mt. Vernon/Plankinton. The C-Hawks picked up a game-high 15 points from Sam Peterson and 10 more points from Jacob Toso. MVP got 12 points each from Hayden Schmidt and Tate Deinert.

Colman-Egan 46, Castlewood 42 at Colman — Josh Giese had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help Colman-Egan top Castlewood. Bodee Groos finished with 16 points, two steals and two assists for the Hawks. Castlewood was paced by Caleb DeKam who had a game-high 26 points.

Dell Rapids 50, Sioux Falls Christian 47 at Dell Rapids — Ty Hoglund scored a game-high 32 points and Dell Rapids needed every single one in a narrow win over the Chargers. He was the lone player in double figures for the Quarriers, who will face Harrisburg on Friday. Sioux Falls Christian was led by Keegan Van Egden (14 points) and Chad Barkema (12 points).

Huron 50, Pierre 48 at Huron Arena — Hyland Heinz made a layup with 8 seconds left to lift Huron to the win. Heinz finished with 25 points, while teammate Tye Evers finished with 11 rebounds. Pierre got 8 points from Erin Sevryn and 10 from Brad Dean. Huron improves to 8-1 overall (6-1 ESD) and will travel to Watertown on Friday. Pierre drops to 5-2 overall (4-2 ESD) and will host Mitchell on Thursday.

Irene-Wakonda 54, Alcester-Hudson 44 at Irene — Have yourself a game, Gabe King. The Irene-Wakonda player notched 30 points, seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and seven blocks to help IW top Alcester-Hudson. Zachary Ronning finished with 13 points and five boards for the Cubs, who will face Akron-Westfield on Thursday.

Lennox 61, Elk Point Jefferson 47 at Elk Point — The Orioles were led by Jacob Hinker who had 19 points and 11 rebounds in their win over Elk Point-Jefferson. Tyler Leisinger added 11 points for Lennox, while Jacob Lackas finished with 12. Michael Murphy led EPJ with 13 points.

Longtime Mitchell coach Gary Munsen has died

Mitchell 64, Brookings 53 at Mitchell — Wyatt Smith poured in 22 points and added eight rebounds to help Mitchell take down Brookings. Gray Determan finished with 15 points for Mitchell. Brookings was led by Zach Treiver who had 21 points and Isaac Brandt with 10 points. Brookings (1-6) faces Brandon Valley on Friday. Mitchell (2-7) visits Pierre on Thursday.

Scotland 56, Centerville 46 (OT) at Scotland — Centerville and Scotland both had a player finish with 21 points, but it was Scotland who pulled away for the OT win. Tyrell Martz notched 21 for Centerville. He was joined in double figures by Trace Sikkmok who had 10. Tanner Skorepa had 21 for Scotland, while Travis Skorepa poured in 16. Tanner had 21 rebounds, Travis had nine.

Sioux Falls Lincoln 55, Yankton 34 at Yankton — A game-high 13 points from Nolan Burchill and a strong defensive effort lifted Lincoln over Yankton. The Patriots limited Yankton to just 32.4 percent shooting from the field as a team and forced 19 turnovers. Carson Coutler poured in 10 points for Lincoln.

Roosevelt 55, Harrisburg 49 (OT) at Harrisburg — Alex Fiegan hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force OT for Roosevelt, which knocked off Harrisburg in the extra period. Fiegan finished with 11 points, but it was Tristen Teichmeier who led the team with 17. Will Johnson paced Harrisburg with 17 points. Harrisburg (1-6) visits Sioux Falls Christian on Friday, while Roosevelt (4-5) welcomes Lincoln on Monday.

Tea Area 74, Tri-Valley 59 at Tea — Tri-Valley got a double-double from Will Steineke (22 points, 11 rebounds) but it wasn’t enough to top the Titans. Tea was led by Ethan Freidel who had a game-high 28 points. Noah Freidel picked up 14 points, while Jake Friedrich added 12 and Payton Conrad 10. Conrad also had four assists and three steals. Tri-Valley got 11 points from Cade Falor and 10 points from Jayden Burgraff.

Brookings 53, Mitchell 34 at Brookings — Brookings picked up a total of 25 points from Sara Tvedt (13) and Baylee Tetzlaff (12) en route to a lopsided win over Mitchell. The Kernels got 11 points from Mackenzie Miller and five steals from Tess Limberg.

Centerville 56, Scotland 49 at Scotland DH — Shannon O’Malley scored a game-high 24 points to go with three steals to help Centerville collect a road win over Scotland. Rebecca Hybertson added 15 points and three steals, while Emily Snyder finished with 12 points. Taylor Gall had 22 points and six rebounds for Scotland.

Chester 61, Marion 28 at Chester — Chester shot 48 percent from the field as a team and cruised past Marion on its home court. Marion, which shot 31 percent from the field, was led in scoring by Renae Kayser who had nine points. Jenna Reiff led Chester with 20 points, three steals and six rebounds, while Molly Heyn notched five assists.

Freeman 78, Bon Homme 35 at Freeman — Freeman got a game-high 28 points from Erika Sage as part of a big win over Bon Homme. Ashley Glanzer added 16 points, while Hannah Eberts had eight rebounds. Freeman shot 52 percent from the field for the game. Bon Homme notched 10 points from Deann Jelsma. Freeman (7-1) faces Menno on Saturday.

Flandreau 67, Garretson 36 at Garretson — Kylie Bertran drained seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points for Flandreau in a winning effort. Garretson was paced by Kylie Greenhoff, who finished with 10 points.

McCook Central/Montrose 62, Hanson 53 at Alexandria — McCook Central/Montrose had four players finish in double figures, including Natalie Gottlob who had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Morgan Koepsell added 16 points, Rachel Laetsch had 12 and Danielle Hansen had 11. Kynedi Cheeseman notched a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds for Hanson.

Menno 42, Canistota 37 at Canistota — Paige Heckenlaible picked up 13 points and Tara Spencer added 12 to help Menno take down Canistota. Kalli Ortman led Canistota with 14 points, Jodan Engbrecht had 10.

Pierre 65, Huron 46 at Pierre — Hallie Jerome notched 20 points to help Pierre take down Huron. Tori Thorpe added 16 points. Stats were not provided for Huron.

Sioux Falls Lincoln 78, Yankton 70 at Yankton — Anna Brecht poured in a game-high 33 points and Sioux Falls Lincoln managed to fight off Yankton. Brecht hit 10 of 19 shots from the field, 3 of 7 from behind the arc and 10 of 11 at the charity stripe. She also chipped in three steals. Izzy VanVeldhuizen notched 16 points, four assists and two steals for Lincoln. Yankton was led by Madason Tessier who had 19 points. Lindsay Hale added 16, Becky Frick had 15 and Josie Sayler finished with 10. Hale also picked up six assists.

Vermillion 43, Madison 42 at Vermillion — Haleigh Melstad had 16 points to lead Vermillion to a one-point win over Madison. Twila Sweeney had 10 rebounds for the home team. Madison was led by Jessi Giles who had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Nicole Brown notched 18 points.
