Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema hasn’t emerged as the nation’s best recruiter since arriving in Fayetteville, though he has been able to land some key talent in Arkansas and neighboring states. That continued on Thursday, when the top in-state recruit for the Class of 2017, safety Montaric Brown, chose the Razorbacks.
Brown, who stars for Ashdown High, committed to Bielema and his coaching staff on Twitter after an unofficial visit to the campus on Thursday. His pledge was a significant one for Arkansas, in no small part because Brown was also very wanted by the likes of Alabama, LSU, Auburn and plenty other elite programs.
You can see the highlights from Brown’s junior season below.
Despite Brown’s commitment to Arkansas, some experts and onlookers will likely retain skepticism, particularly with Alabama lurking on the edges of his recruiting. Yet Brown’s pledge to Arkansas could instantly jump start the school’s recruiting class. He becomes the Razorbacks’ highest rated recruit overnight, and can also be leaned upon (in theory) to help expand the school’s pending class.
For now, Brown’s pledge is the brightest news in Arkansas’ recruiting this year. Woo Pig Sooie fans will hope that there will be many more like him come February.
