Name: Terry Taylor III.

Age/class: 18/senior.

School: Greece Olympia.

Sport/events: Track & Field/Pole vault and 400-meter relay.

Family: Parents, Rebecca and Terry Taylor II; Savannah, 22, sister; Uryah, 17, brother; Ruby, 15, sister.

Academics: 87 average.

Last week: Qualified for the state championships, June 10-11 at Cicero-North Syracuse, in the pole vault and with Olympia’s 400-meter relay. Olympia will compete in Division II this weekend. Taylor cleared 14 feet-3 inches to finish first in the Division II group last Friday during Section V’s state qualifier meet.

“I’m more than excited,” Taylor said. “I feel kind of nervous, but I know that I’m going to be ready. I’m feeling confident. I know I have to just go there and do what I know how to do.”

About me: 2016 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Indoor Track Team. … Runner-up in the pole vault at the 2016 indoor state championships. … Personal-best height is 15 feet, jumped during a competition with the Pole Vault Playground group coached by Mike Auble in Warsaw. … “I’ve traveled an hour out to Warsaw every week since I was a sophomore. A lot of the top vaulters in Section V, VI, IV go to train there. They come from all over.” … Plans to attend State University College at Geneseo. “I’m thinking bio or physics. Pharmaceuticals are something I’ve looked at with interest.” … Member of Olympia’s student mentoring program. He visits a sixth-grade class every Wednesday to aid students with reading and comprehension.
