Cesar Rodriguez stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth.
Tied at two with host Horace Greeley, the Arlington High School baseball player smacked an RBI double, giving the Admirals the lead. Arlington scored three more times in the frame to beat the Quakers, 6-2.
Rodriguez finished 2 for 4.
“We finally started to find holes in the ninth inning,” said Admirals coach Darrell Flynn, whose team improved to 2-1 “I think we could have mailed it in easily, but winning on the road is tough, especially against a team like Horace Greeley. I’m happy for my guys.”
Simon Alvarez scored the go-ahead run in the ninth and finished 1 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Teammate Matt Chipken was 2 for 5 with a single, a double and a run scored.
Rob Fratarcangeli tossed four innings in relief and gave up five hits, one earned run and struck out one batter. He piggybacked starting pitcher Kevin Besko, who pitched five innings and gave up five hits, one earned run and struck out one batter.
The Admirals will host John Jay-Cross River at 4:30 Thursday.
“They’re a tough team.” Flynn said. “They’re an ‘A’ school, but a team that’s always competitive. We expect a tough game up at our place and hopefully we’ll be successful.”
