Pittsburgh Pirates baseball is back in full swing. And what better way to start the season than with a sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals? The Pirates home opener was this past Sunday. The Pirates won the game 4-1. The Pirates second game of the series was on Tuesday. The Pirates won a much closer game 6-5. The third game was on Wednesday and the Pirates won 5-1 for the sweep. New Pitcher Juan Nicasio pitched six dominant innings and Cervelli hit a two-run double for the blowout victory. Nicasio told actual reporters “I’m just coming to the field and doing everything I can to help my team win.” The Pirates go on to face the Reds next. No doubt that my friends and I will be attending many games this year.
I asked my fellow peers how they feel about the Pirates this year and asked if they had some interesting things to say. Junior Nick Kletzli told reporters “I am an avid baseball fan and have been playing the sport my whole life. The Pirates usually seem to have a slower start to their seasons, but who knows after sweeping the Cardinals. I think that we will have a very good season.” Junior Noah Zihmer told reporters “I didn’t really pay much attention to baseball until like 2 years ago. I always thought the Pirates stunk, but right now they are looking pretty hot even though it is very early in the season to judge that. Just like the Penguins, I think the Pirates will get on a winning streak and will not get off of it.”
