If there were two players giving the Spackenkill High School baseball team a hard time on Thursday, they were Brandon Lahey and Brandon Greenspan.
Lahey knocked in four runs while Greenspan spun a gem from the mound, giving visiting Franklin D. Roosevelt a 5-2 win over the Spartans.
“(Lahey) was aggressive at the plate,” Spackenkill coach Don Neise said. “Greenspan did a real nice job mixing his curveball with his fastball to keep our hitters off balance.”
Roosevelt got going offensively right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first off a two-run single by Lahey. In the top of the third, Lahey struck again, this time for an RBI single. Dan Rivera then grounded into a fielder’s choice to plate another run.
Lahey finished his offensive performance in the top of the fifth, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.
“He really did a nice job at the plate,” Neise added.
Greenspan pitched five innings and allowed one earned run. He allowed four hits and struck out 11 for the Presidents (7-4), who visit Arlington Saturday.
Josh Kollor finished 2 for 3 for Spackenkill and pitched four innings. He gave up three earned runs and struck out two batters. Jason Stevens finished 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Late Wednesday, Spackenkill beat Dover 8-0 behind a one-hitter from Josh Rosario. He struck out 11 batters, and also doubled and scored twice. Joe Oppedisano went 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Spartans.
Dover’s Riley Leonardi had the Dragons’ sole hit.
