Will Zuvic poured in 26 points and had 11 rebounds to lead third-seeded Haldane in a 65-38 romp over sixth-seeded Hawthorne-Cedar Knolls in a Section 1 Class C quarterfinal Friday at Haldane.
Nick Chiera contributed with 12 points for the Blue Devils.
“I thought we shared the ball well,” Haldane coach Joe Virgadamo said. “Our intensity was where it has to be this time of season, in these ‘do-or-die’ games. …We kept the pressure on (Hawthorne-Cedar Knolls) which definitely helped out our offense.”
Haldane (12-9) faces Tuckahoe at 3 p.m. Wednesday in semifinal play at the Weschester County Center.
Marlboro beat Saugerties 62-35 late Thursday at SUNY Ulster to advance to the Mid-Hudson Athletic League final, which ended after the Journal went to press Friday.
Talaya Lewis scored 16 points while Missy Sadler added 13. Julia Rusk pitched in with 12.
“We had a very good quick, first quarter,” said Marlboro coach Marion Casey. “The girls came out ready to play, I couldn’t have asked for a better start.”
Highland 37, Franklin D. Roosevelt 24 — Kate McCutcheon scored 13 points for the visiting Huskies late Thursday. Ali Rozzi poured in nine points on three 3-pointers while Sam Garcia had seven for Highland (14-6).
Kristen Phillips scored six for Roosevelt.
