In the final night of Battle Creek Central’s football season, the Bearcats saw this last game as a chance to finish out the season on a strong note against the winless Knights of Kalamazoo Loy Norrix. Battle Creek Central showed a lot of pride, beating Loy Norrix 47-6 in a SMAC East contest at C.W. Post Field on Friday.
Things started off quickly for the Bearcats with a Carlos Parks fumble recovery, then an Austin McKinney halfback pass to Demetrius Craig that setup a Denzel Banks touchdown from 3 yards out.
Banks soon found the end zone for a second time on a sweep from six yards out to make the score 14-0 midway through the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Jahmiel Wade found Craig on a short pass for a touchdown from six yards out. Wade later would record his second touchdown pass of the game as he found McKinney on a 33-yard strike. Late in the second quarter, Wade threw his third touchdown pass of the game, finding Craig for 48 yards to make the score 34-0 at the half.
Battle Creek Central later added another score on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Wade to Craig to bring the score to 41-6.
Late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Mohammed Ahemed found Michael Holley on a 15-yard touchdown pass to make the final score 47-6
Banks finished with 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Wade finishes with 176 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
Battle Creek Central saw 13 seniors play in their final game and with the victory and finishes the season at 3-6.
“Coming out and finishing like this, it kind of caps off their efforts and coming together the way that they did and staying focused,” BCC coach Lorin Granger said. “So I am really happy that they got to go out the way they did.”
