Beacon High School’s Rayvon Grey won the long jump with a meet record of 25 feet, 2 inches on the first day of the Section 1 Division 1 track and field state qualifier meet at Arlington High School on Thursday.
Teammate Terrel Davis took second (23 feet, 4 3/4 inches). David Adams won the 110 meter hurdles (14.38).
Arlington’s Parish Durham won the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches) and Ogemdi Chukwu took second in the 110 hurdles (15.11).
Matt Goldsmith of John Jay placed second in the high hump (6 feet, 2 inches). Ketcham’s Danny Napora finished third in the 3,200 (9:38.92).
Our Lady of Lourdes’ Zachary Ropes won the 800 (1:57.70) and teammate Will Whelan took second (1:59.61) in Division 2.
Corbett Francis of Haldane was fourth in the Division 2 long jump (19 feet, 7 inches) and teammate Stephen Junjulas took fifth (19 feet, 6 inches).
Pawling’s Brennen Farrell won the 110 hurdles (17.05 seconds) and the shot put (9.78 meters) and took second in the long jump (5.56 meters) in the pentathlon.
Additional events will be held as the meet concludes on Friday.
Girls track and field
Arlington’s Maya Reina took second (9 feet, 6 inches) and teammate Sarah McGowan was third (9 feet, 6 inches) in the pole vault in the Section 1 Division 1 state qualifier. Meghan LaTuso took fourth in the 3,000 (10:27.37).
Beacon’s Jummie Akinwunmi placed third in the high jump (5 feet, 1 inch). Ketcham’s Amani Arthur took fourth in the 100 meters (13.0 seconds) and teammate Oreoluwa Odeniyi placed fifth (13.02).
Lourdes’ Caroline Timm took second in the Division 2 800 meters (2:14.12). Teammate April Griggs took second in the shot put (29 feet, 11 1/2 inches), and Katie Clarke tied for second in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches).
Abbey Stowell of Haldane won the 100 hurdles (16.97), long jump (4.63 meters) and the shot put (9.68 meters) of the pentathlon. Teammate Marina Martin took fourth in the 100 (13.49).
