After a hard-fought game against Highland on Tuesday, the Marlboro High School girls basketball team remains perfect.
Emily Beck finished with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Iron Dukes in a 61-45 win over the visiting Huskies.
“It definitely was not an easy win in any sense,” said Marlboro coach Marion Casey. “We were losing by two (points) at one point in the third quarter.”
The coach credited Beck and Faith Welker for “really stepping up” after a first half riddled with foul trouble. “I couldn’t be more proud of those girls, they came in and held their own,” Casey said.
Missy Sadler had a double-double of her own, adding 12 points and 13 rebounds for Marlboro.
Julia Rusk and Taylor Felicello both chipped in with 12 points apiece for the Dukes.
Allison Rozzi led the way for Highland, putting away 19 points, while Brianna Rozzi had 11 points for the Huskies.
“Coming into this game we knew that Highland was going to be tough for us,” said Casey. “But we were able to keep our composure and it was a great overall team effort.”
Marlboro (7-0) visits New Paltz at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
“It’s going to be another tough game for us,” Casey said of the matchup with the Huguenots. “New Paltz has been doing very well. But we’ll attack it the same way we did tonight, and keep our composure and hope that everyone contributes again.”
