Blair Academy (Blairstown, NJ) is the No. 1 team in the final USA TODAY High School Sports/National High School Coaches Association Super 25 wrestling rankings.
The Bucs, who began the season as the top-ranked team in the preseason rankings, had to battle back from a season-opening second-place finish at the Ironman in Ohio in December.
Blair won its 35th National Prep School Wrestling Championship in the last 36 years.
Blair had seven individual champs — Michael Colaiocco (106 pounds), Chris Cannon (113 pounds), Carol Van Der Merwe (132 pounds), Andrew Merola (145 pounds), Ryan Karoly (160 pounds), Brandon Dallavia (170 pounds) and Chase Singletary (195 pounds).
Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.), which ends No. 2 in the final rankings, won the Ironman and took over the top spot in our rankings, a position it held until a late January loss to Blair in a dual match.
Rounding out the final Top 5 are Graham (St. Paris, Ohio) at No. 3, Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) at No. 4 and Bethlehem Catholic (Bethlehem, Pa.) at No. 5.
Last weekend, Bethlehem Catholic ended its season in style by winning the PIAA Class AAA team title with three state champs.
In all, nine states were represented in the final Super 25 with Pennsylvania leading the way with six schools. Illinois had five, Ohio had four and California had three.
