The Asheville School boys team placed second at Monday's NCISAA 3-A swim meet in Greensboro.

The Asheville School boys team placed second at Monday’s NCISAA 3-A swim meet in Greensboro.

The Asheville School boys (278 points) and girls (231) placed second and third, respectively, in Monday’s NCISAA 3-A swim meet held inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

It is the best showing at the state meet in more than a decade for both Blues teams.

Individually, they got a pair of first-place finishes in the meet’s longest race — the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Abby Kriegler (4 minutes, 58.16 seconds) was the girls winner and sophomore Alec Sands (4:42.18) was the boys winner.

Bella Ostlund placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.34) and joined Kriegler, Rylynn Pierson and Alexa Phillips to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.24).

On the boys side, Joshua Wong was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.42). Sands, Wong, Nathan Alleyne and Ji-Hoon Jang swam to a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.72) and the combination of Sands, Wong, Alleyne and Tae-Hoon Jang were the runner-up team in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:17.62).
