It took some time on Monday, but things clicked for the Our Lady of Lourdes High School boys lacrosse team.
Facing Washingtonville, the host Warriors came away with a 19-16 win, their first win of the season. Lourdes will host Tappan Zee at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
“We didn’t start the season with any weak links,” said Lourdes coach Chris Malet, whose team improved to 1-1. “It’ll be another good matchup.”
With six minutes left against Washingtonville, Lourdes took the lead for good. The Warriors were powered by several scorers and distributors. Dillon Rispoli led Lourdes with six goals and three assists. Teammate Ty Arnone peppered the nets five times, while Joe Scaglione scored three goals and handed out three assists.
Trevor Arnone scored two goals and had one assist, while Luke Rispoli had one goal and one assist. Billy Wagner (one goal, two assists), Jimmy Daly (one goal), Evan Mullaly (three assists) and Kyle Strack (one assist) each chipped in.
Lourdes’ defense and goalie Matt Sayegh’s 11 saves helped preserve the win.
“Matt had some great saves late in the game,” Malet said, adding that his team was unselfish.
“We’ve been preaching unselfishness. The fact that we had 14 out of 19 goals assisted shows how unselfish we were. If we can play like that with every kid being an option, we’ll be a tough matchup for anybody.”
