Brian Kuczma said the warm weather threw his team off on Thursday.
But his Wappingers Central School District boys lacrosse team beat the heat along with visiting Croton-Harmon High School, 12-7, to close out the regular season.
Kuczma’s team is hitting its stride as the Warriors await playoff seeding, and he would like to see it continue.
“Hopefully we’re peaking at the right time and playing our best lacrosse this time of the year,” said Kuczma, whose Warriors wrapped up the regular season with a 12-4 record. “The kids should be proud of what they did this regular season, and it’s back to work for the second season, the playoffs.”
The coach added that his team knew the importance of the game in terms of playoff positioning, and Jack Decker and Billy Biegun took that to heart.
Decker and Biegun led the Warriors with three goals apiece. Jake Shaw scored once and proved to be a key distributor, making six assists. James Pratt backed him up with one goal and four assists.
Carl Volk and Tom Dubowski each scored once, while Austin Cox completed the scoring with two goals.
Goalie Emad Jamal made eight saves. Kuczma said the game was “closer than the score indicated.”
“But they fought hard through it,” the coach said, “ and finished off the regular season strong.”
