It’s early this season, but the Beacon High School boys tennis team has established itself as a group of road warriors.
Visiting Peekskill on Wednesday, the Bulldogs picked up a 6-1 win. Coach Dave Ryley’s team has now won its first four games of the season, and will shift its attention to Monday, when it takes on Ossining on the road. The Bulldogs have now won three straight matches away from Beacon.
“Ossining was pretty strong last year and have most of their guys back,” Ryley said of his team’s next match. “So I’m expecting them to be pretty tough.”
Jack Rothberg proved to be pretty tough at first singles against Peekskill. He won 8-0 in a pro set. After trailing by three, teammate Matt Wyant rallied to win at second singles, 8-6. Russell Hecker won at third singles, 8-5.
The doubles team of David Demetros and Mark Padoleski were just as hot. The pair of Bulldogs won at third doubles, 8-2.
“I thought we played pretty well,” Ryley said. “It’s great to go 4-0, that’s a nice start. We’ve got some tough matches coming up, so it’s nice to get some confidence.”
After the Bulldogs face off with Ossining, they come home to face North Salem on Wednesday, April 13. Beacon hosts Hendrick Hudson two days later.
