Brian Gaffney is trending in the right direction.
The head pro at Quaker Ridge shot a 2-under 70 at Turning Stone in Round 3 of the PGA Professional Championship on Tuesday and is tied for eighth with a 3-under 214 total. A top-20 finish on Wednesday comes with an invitation to play in the PGA Championship next month at Baltusrol.
Gaffney was the low club pro a last summer at Whistling Straits.
Former PGA Tour member Omar Uresti leads the championship with an 11-under total of 205. He’s two strokes clear of Long Island’s Mark Brown heading into the final round.
GlenArbor director of golf Rob Labritz is tied for 15th at 2-under after carding a 72. Winged Foot assistant Grant Sturgeon is tied for 21st at 1-under after shooting a 72. Saxon Woods head pro Charlie Meola is tied for 36th at 1-over after carding a 73.
James Ondo, the head pro at Apawamis, missed the third-round cut.
