STAUNTON – In a closely contested Valley District boys basketball game Friday night in the Paul Hatcher Gymnasium, Broadway edged Robert E. Lee 53-52.

The Gobblers led 5-4 after one period and were up 9-8 in the second quarter before Lee ran off nine straight points to lead 17-9. Broadway battled back to trail by just one point, 22-21, at the half.

The Gobblers took the third quarter 13-7 to post a 34-29 advantage heading into the final eight minutes. Lee had its best quarter of the game in the final eight minutes, bucketing 23 points. But it wasn’t enough as the Gobblers survived for the win.

Darius George led the Leemen with 26 points, with 13 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Jarvis Vaughan added 10.

Brady Duff and Brenlee Reedy each scored 13 for the Gobblers.

Lee (8-5) is at Covington on Tuesday.
