Smoky Mountain’s new football coach has some experience when it comes to managing a Western North Carolina team.
Jackson County Schools announced Monday that former Erwin coach Chris Brookshire has been given the nod.
Brookshire resigned from the Buncombe County school in 2007 after going 17-38 in five seasons. His 2006 team ended a four-year playoff drought for the Warriors at the time. Brookshire has been on the Western Carolina University staff for the past two years as a coach of offensive quality control.
Brookshire replaces David Napert, who went 20-14 in five seasons and 5-7 in 2015. Smoky Mountain said it would not renew Napert’s contract back in November. Napert is also a former WCU assistant coach.
