Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.) won its first 17 games this season, avenged its only loss of the season, to Clovis North (Fresno), three times, including in the CIF Central Section Division I championship, and finished the season 30-1.
Add to those accomplishments the Bears’ first Super 25 championship. With only a few teams still playing last week, it was unlikely that any team would pass Buchanan for the title, but with these being the final Super 25 rankings of the season, it’s official. The Bears moved into the rankings the first regular week of the season and stayed in. It wasn’t until June 1, however, when they moved to No. 1, as they won their second consecutive Central Section title. The Bears were led by pitcher-first baseman Grant Gambrell, who was an ALL-USA Second Team Selection.
